I came across an interesting drink idea on Pinterest that immediately caught my eye: a Baklava Latte. Baklava happens to be one of my favorite desserts—it’s sweet, nutty, and the perfect little treat after a hearty gyro. So naturally, a latte inspired by those flavors? Yes, please.
Baklava Latte Ingredients:
Espresso
Pecan sauce (homemade or store-bought)
Honey
Cinnamon
Steamed milk, oat milk, half & half, or heavy whipping cream (nut-based milks will enhance the nutty flavor)
I started by making my own pecan sauce the day before, giving it time to cool and refrigerate. I know that prepping the day before can be annoying, but trust me, it’s worth it the next morning. Plus, I don’t live close to a big town or city, so finding pecan sauce at the store would have been a challenge. Making it at home turned out to be pretty simple, and here’s the recipe I used >>> Chestnut Praline Syrup (I just used pecans not chestnuts)
One thing to remember when making a latte at home is the importance of quality beans. You might think that’s out of your budget, but I use Café Bustelo espresso for my daily fix. It’s affordable and consistently good, and you can find it almost anywhere. If you live in a small town like me, chances are you’ll find it at your local market or even a Dollar Store. I always encourage shopping local, but I know that’s not always an option. You deserve a fancy, affordable coffee that you can enjoy every day.
When I make drinks with lots of elements like this, I always add the flavoring first. This allows the espresso to blend with the flavor right away. I don’t use an espresso machine (yet), but our coffee maker has a ‘specialty’ setting that uses less water, perfect for iced drinks or espresso-style coffees.
Here’s how I make my Baklava Latte:
In your cup, combine:
1/2 tablespoon of pecan sauce
1 1/2 tablespoons of honey
1 teaspoon of cinnamon
Brew the espresso directly into the cup.
Meanwhile, pour 1/2 to 1 cup of your desired milk (or milk substitute) into a microwave-safe cup.
Microwave the milk for 30 to 45 seconds.
Froth the milk with a handheld frother until it’s slightly bubbly.
Gently tap the cup and swirl the milk to get rid of any large bubbles.
Stir the espresso and flavor mixture to ensure it’s well combined.
Slowly pour in the milk, tilting the cup so the milk blends with the espresso.
And finally, enjoy your Baklava Latte!
These steps can be used daily, even if you’re not making a flavored latte. I also recommend trying Café Bustelo on its own—it’s an amazing espresso without any added flavor. Enjoy making coffee at home; with money being tight, it’s becoming harder to justify daily trips to coffee shops. If you do treat yourself out, try a local coffee shop instead of a chain like Starbucks or Scooters. Your money goes further and supports your community!
